Boldt Snags Second SJHL ‘Goalie of the Week’ Honour This Season

THIRD TIME BOLDT HAS EARNED LEAGUE HONOURS IN 2018/19

After adding two more wins and two more sizzling performances in net to his standout rookie campaign, Grant Boldt has been recognized as the SJHL’s ‘Goalie Of The Week’ for January 20-27.

The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins defeated the Melfort Mustangs 6-1 and the Nipawin Hawks 2-1 in a shootout over the weekend, with Boldt backstopping the Bruins to both wins.

Boldt made 29 saves against the Mustangs 3rd-ranked offence. He then nearly duplicated that effort the next night with 28 saves in regulation and overtime, then stymied all three Nipawin shooters en route to earning the Bruins a crucial extra point in the win. Against those two teams this season, Boldt went a personal (5-1) allowing only eight goals against in six starts (1.32 GAA and .953 Sv%)

For the season, Boldt (13-11-1-1) sits 5th among qualified goaltenders in goals-against-average (2.52 GAA) and 9th in save percentage (9.12 Sv%). Boldt is also 7th in games played (27 GP), but has started 11 of the last 13 games for Estevan since December 1st.

It’s the third time in the 2018/19 season that Boldt has earned SJHL honours. The Detroit Lakes, MN-born goaltender was named the league’s ‘Goalie of the Week’ for October 14-21st and then named the SJHL’s ‘Rookie of the Month’ for November. His consistent play in net has helped the Bruins stay near the top of the division all season and is a key reason why Estevan is pushing for their third straight Viterra Division title.

With Boldt shutting the door in net, and the Bruins offence (23 goals scored in last 5 games) beginning to hold up it’s end of the bargain, Estevan has strung together five straight wins and pulled into a tie with the Yorkton Terriers (49 points) for top spot in the division with 12 games remaining in the regular season.

Boldt and the Bruins will take on the Weyburn Red Wings in another weekend home-and-home series on February 1st & 2nd, looking to extend their winning streak and keep pace with Yorkton entering the final full month of the regular season.
