Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

2019/20 Season Officially Cancelled By CJHL

It is now official: the 2019/20 hockey season has been cancelled.

Hockey Canada made the announcement on Friday afternoon, after the original decision to postpone the season until further notice was made on Thursday. The decision was made in the fallout of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) global outbreak and the precautionary measures being taken by sports leagues around the world.

The Estevan Bruins season ends with the team finishing 6th overall in the regular season standings, a record of (31-21-3-1) and 66 points. The Bruins were in the middle of a Best-of-7 Quarterfinal series with the Melfort Mustangs at the time of the cancellation, with the Melfort Mustangs leading (3-1) with Game 5 scheduled to be played on Friday, March 13th.

Unfortunately, this means the end of the season for the Estevan Bruins, and the end of the Junior ‘A’ hockey careers for the four Bruins’ graduating players: Jayden Davis, Tylor Ludwar, Tanner Manz and Tyson Manz.

The cancellation of the 2019/20 season includes all on-ice and off-ice activities as sanctioned by Hockey Canada. This extends to the upcoming Estevan Bruins’ Spring Camp scheduled for April 10th – 12th, which has now been cancelled.

At this time, the next event on the SJHL agenda is the annual League Meetings that typically take place at the end of May/start of June which would include scheduling, rule changes, meetings, and more.

The Estevan Bruins Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club wishes to sincerely thank all our fans, sponsors, volunteers, corporate partners, staff and players for another outstanding season of hockey in Estevan, and we look forward to seeing everyone return in the fall to Affinity Place!
