Hockey Canada has provided an update to it’s national tournament schedule and the status quo remains in regards to the City of Estevan hosting the Centennial Cup, presented by Tim Horton’s, in May 2022.
The COVID-19 pandemic cancelled all Hockey Canada games and events for the remainder of the 2020 season in March, including the Centennial Cup championship tournament in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba that was to be played in May.
In a statement on June 1st by the CJHL, Hockey Canada has announced that the 2021 Centennial Cup will still be hosted by Penticton, BC and the 2022 Centennial Cup will still be hosted by Estevan, SK. In addition, the 2023 Centennial Cup has the potential to return to Portage la Prairie, MB.
While no schedule or plans for hockey to resume in Canada for the 2020/21 season have been determined at this time, the news is reassuring for the Estevan Bruins hockey operations and Centennial Cup planning committee to continue with preparing to host the tournament in 2022 until further announcements are made by Hockey Canada.
