Home opener game goes to the Terriers

The 2022-2023 season started last night in Affinity Place for the Estevan Bruins. The start of the evening had a banner reveal ceremony of the 2022 championship banner in which the Estevan Bruins won the championship in May.

The Estevan Bruins dropped a 3-2 decision to the division rival Yorkton Terriers on Friday night at Affinity Place as the 2022-2023 SJHL season began.

The Bruins took a 2-1 lead in the second period before getting into penalty trouble. Yorkton scored on a 5 on 3 advantage late in the second period to tie the game and then got the game winner from Clay Sleeve in the third period, also a powerplay marker.

Newcomers Jeremy Fortin and Evan Forrest scored for the Bruins.

Estevan outshot Yorkton 44-33, but couldn’t cash in on a 6 on 3 scenario late in regulation with goaltender Cam Hrdlicka on the bench for an extra attacker.

The Bruins and Terriers will tangle again Saturday night at the Westland Insurance Arena in Yorkton.

The Winning 50/50 number was BR4-018018
