Bruins’ forward, Noah Asmundson has announced his commitment to the University of Regina Cougars (U SPORTS) for the 2026-27 season.

A White City, SK., native, Asmundson said he’s looking forward to continuing his hockey career at the post-secondary level close to home.

“For me it was the best fit as I’ll be able to live at home and they have a good business program,” Asmundson said. “I have lots of friends that are attending U of R and the conversations I had with some of the coaching staff were also great and [we] had the same goals.”

Among those friends he’ll be joining are current Cougars’ hockey players, and teammates from his days with the U18 AAA Pat Canadians, Brayden Barnett (teammates 2020-22), and Estevan Bruins’ alum, Blake Heward (2020-21).

Other Bruins’ alumni from recent years currently on the Cougars include: Kade Runke, Eric Houk, Eric Pearce, and Turner McMillen.

Asmundson will be joining familiar surroundings in Regina, as the Pat C’s also played at the Co-operators rink (home of the Cougars) during his time in U18, and the U of R is the school his brothers attended.

With 30 points (13G, 17A) in 41 games this season, Asmundson is currently sixth in Bruins’ scoring while centering the team’s go-to checking unit at even strength, and factoring in as a central figure on the top power play unit, with his 11 power play goals T-3rd in the SJHL this season.

Bruins’ Head Coach and G.M., Drew Kocur said he’s happy to see Asmundson get the opportunity to continue his hockey journey, and spoke to what the Cougars are getting on the ice and off.

“We’re very happy that we could find a U SPORT school for Noah to continue his hockey dreams and get an education while playing the game,” Kocur said. “Noah is a great person and leader with good work ethic. He has good size and is a force on the power play.”
