Become an Estevan Bruin

The Bruins organization prides itself on 5 values: Determination, Drive, Dedication, Desire, and Discipline. We are looking for players who display those values and have shown they are team players with a winning attitude.

The Bruins are also dedicated to helping our players pursue educational goals and provide the best opportunities possible in order to do so. The team plays out of the beautiful Affinity Place Arena in Estevan, a 5 year old 2,300 capacity arena that just played host to the 2016 Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup. The arena has top notch facilities including a hand-crafted dressing room, a player’s lounge, and an on-site gym, squash courts, and swimming pool.

The SJHL regular season is a 58 game season which includes games at the Annual SJHL Showcase which takes place in Warman, Saskatchewan during the first few weeks of the season. League playoffs begin in March with playoffs extending to the end of April. The league champion wins the Canalta Cup and moves onto the Western Canada Cup tournament which takes place the first week of May. The winner of that tournament, along with the consolation winner, plays in the RBC Cup in mid-May.

The league is currently sponsored by Sher-Wood Hockey which means the teams in the league supply players with Sher-Wood Sticks, gloves, and pants, and the Bruins also supply helmets as well as some other equipment.

The Bruins are a publically owned team with a rich history. The club is organized by a volunteer group of Directors, and operated by our General Manager and Head Coach Chris Lewgood as well as our Office Manager and Director of Operations and Marketing in the Bruins Office. The team also relies on numerous volunteers throughout the year and have a great group of dedicated people who help the team run each and every year.

The Bruins get great local coverage through our local radio station (CJ1150, radio broadcast partner) and our local newspapers (Estevan Mercury, Estevan Lifestyles). We also receive great coverage from CTV Regina as well. The team also has a high quality online broadcast of all of our home games for parents and family to watch games from a distance at, and the rest of the teams around the league all have broadcasts as well so all of our games can be watched live.

If you would like to be a part of our history and believe you can fulfill these values as a player and community member in Estevan, you can call or email our office to provide your information:

  1. Hello, I am Andrew Lawrence. I just finished my season with the Connecticut Junior Rangers of the USPHL, I’m a 6’3” 185 lbs defenseman. What I can offer you is that I am known for is my work ethic and never giving up. I will always be giving as much as I can, whenever I can, and I am motivated to always improve. Also, if there is a shot I can block I will always get in the shooting lane to block it. I am an all world roller hockey goalie and have a good understanding of the shooting lanes and little hints of when and where a player might shoot. Another thing is that I have a good hockey IQ, especially in the defensive zone. I can also bring leadership to the locker room as I was the captain of my previous junior hockey team the Atlanta Junior Kings. My plus-minus is +21 in a season where my team went 21-21-2 with 175 goals for and 168 against. I had 2 goals and 11 assists this year with 11 goals and 34 assists last year.
