The Estevan Bruins have started the 2021/22 season at 2-0 after an opening weekend sweep over the Yorkton Terriers. The wins were thanks in large part to their goaltending, and the team’s starter for both of those games is being recognized for his strong play to start the year.
Boston Bilous was named as the SJHL’s Goaltender of the Week after earning two wins and allowing only 4 goals against Yorkton on the weekend. Bilous was nearly perfect in Friday’s home opener, as his shutout bid was snapped with just over 4:00 remaining the the game as the Bruins’ won 2-1 with Bilous making 25 saves. Then on Saturday, Bilous was beaten three times in the Bruins’ 4-3 victory, with all 3 Yorkton goals coming off of deflections and traffic in front. Bilous made 23 saves in Saturday’s win, and came up with a few big saves at the end of the game when the Bruins’ were up by a goal and having to kill off a 6-on-4 and 6-on-3 man advantage for Yorkton.
Bilous has a 2.00 G.A.A. and a .923 SV% after the first two games, and will be expected to play either one or both of the Bruins’ upcoming games this weekend on the road in Melville and Weyburn.
