Brawl leads to early ending in another Bruins win over Wings

A relatively tame game between the Estevan Bruins and Weyburn Red Wings ended in fisticuffs Friday night in Weyburn.

With the Bruins ahead 4-0 late in the third period, Weyburn forward Simon Pollock hit Bruins defenceman Alex Von Sprecken from behind. The two players then dropped the gloves with Von Sprecken landing a couple haymakers and knocking out Pollock.

A brawl ensued that will likely result in suspensions for both teams. Pollock was stretchered off the ice. He is stable and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Officials let the final minute and 24 seconds run down. The final score was 4-0 Estevan.

Meanwhile forward Mark Rumsey led the way yet again offensively for the Bruins, scoring twice. He now has an SJHL-leading 38 goals on the year.

Goaltender Boston Bilous got the shut out in net.

The two rivals will go at it again Saturday night at Affinity Place in Estevan.
