Broncos late surge takes the first game of the Showcase

The Estevan Bruins have now lost three straight games after a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Humboldt Broncos Tuesday night at the SJHL Showcase in Warman, Sask.

The Bruins led 4-3 with under two minutes remaining but couldn’t get across the finish line, as Humboldt rallied for a pair of late goals, including the game winner from Cage Newans with just 15 seconds left on the clock, and escaped with a 5-4 victory.

Estevan got goals from Logan Ziegler, Matthew Ronn, Alex Von Sprecken, and Mitch Kohner, who was back in the lineup after serving a suspension.

Bruins netminder Cam Hrdlicka was also sharp in his return to the crease, making 33 stops.

Estevan will try to get back in the win column Wednesday afternoon against a familiar foe, the Nipawin Hawks. The Bruins split a pair of meetings with the Hawks in Nipawin last week.

The Bruins and Hawks will face off at 1:30, which is the final game of the 2022 showcase.
