The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins held their 3rd Annual Glow Golf Tournament Saturday at Hidden Valley, featuring a tremendous turnout of 30 teams, to set a new high-water mark and sell out the event for the first time.
Marketing Director and Voice of the Bruins, Marty Martinson said it was great to see so many from the community jump on board this year, and come out to take part.
“Right from the time we opened registrations, you could see there was lots of interest,” Martinson said. “When you’re in the early years of getting a newer event off the ground, the word of mouth is huge and I think that really helped us out this time around. People who have come out the last couple of years had a blast and told their friends and coworkers. We have a great community here, and it was just awesome to see things hit new heights this year.
A creative twist on the team’s traditional yearly golf tournament, the Glow Golf tourney features the Front-9 during daylight hours, followed by the Back-9 after supper and auction at the Saloon, once the sun goes down. Returning to action on a glowing fairway, participants are encouraged to dress-up their carts – and themselves – with glow in the dark materials, as they tee-off from a lit tee-box.
“That’s another thing that really took off this year, was everyone really going all-out dressing up their carts and their outfits with glow sticks and lights of all kinds,” Martinson said with a smile. “Last year we had a few people really go all-out, but this year, you could really see how it’s caught on. Everyone had their carts dressed up to the nines, and it made for a great night.”

Martinson added that the event wouldn’t have been nearly the success it was this year without the dedication and commitment of the team board and staff.
“Our board does a great job of pitching in to make an event like this possible,” he said. “Mandee Park and Sheldon Beatty really spearheaded things this year behind the scenes doing a ton of the heavy-lifting, and then you look behind the bar and we have [Team Governor] Aaron Ludwig and Garrett Lasko bartending; working the grill, it’s [Team President] Riley Tetreault; at registration it’s [office manager] Alexis Ciepliski and Mandee, and then of course the coaching staff of Drew [Kocur] and Tucker [Neuberger] and all the players… they’re who the people come to see and they all made themselves available to chat with everyone and connect with this community in the midst of a busy Hockey School schedule, so it really was all hands on deck.”
The Bruins would like to also say a very special thank-you to this year’s sponsors for making the day possible:
- Beatz Eatz
- Tower Cafe
- MNP
- Mantl
- HUB International
- Global Golf Plus
- Estevan Electric
- Mid-City Plumbing & Heating
- Original 16
- Labatt
- Baker Hughes
Thanks to all who came out to attend this year’s event. We’ll see you back next year to light up the night once again!
