The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins are pleased to announce the the additions of forward Lochlan Tetarenko and defenceman Matthew Ronn, to bolster their existing core.
Lochlan Tetarenko | RW (’07)
Tetarenko, an 18-year-old right-winger, signed with the Bruins after spending the last two years split between Calgary of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and Swift Current, Portland and Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League (WHL).
Arriving in Estevan late Tuesday night, he was on the ice for his first practice with the team bright and early, Wednesday morning.
“[Tuesday] I was just sitting at home mid-afternoon, noonish when I got a call just to pack my bags and come down, so I hung up and started packing right away,” Tetarenko said with a smile. “I left the house around 2:30 p.m. in Okotoks, AB., and then came into Estevan around 11 p.m. that night, so I’m really happy to be here and we had a great first practice.”

He said it’s been nice to get into town a couple of days ahead of the weekend’s games.
“It was awesome to kind of get to know everyone’s playing style a bit and it’s good that I came [mid-week] so I get to know all the guys a little bit before we play. Weyburn I heard is going to be a good test this weekend and it should be fun.”
As for his play-style, Tetarenko said he likes to make plays and get engaged physically.
“I love Mitch Marner so I like to play a little bit like him,” he said. “I’d say with the puck I like to play like him, but maybe a little more score-focused; and I also like to bring the physical side of the game too. […] a little physicality, some good speed, I may be a bit of a smaller player but I don’t play like it.”
Kocur said Tetarenko is someone they’ve had their eye on for a while now as a staff.
“We tried getting him earlier in the year and it just didn’t work out right away, but we got a phone call and it kind of fell into our lap so we’re really excited to have Lochlan join our group here,” Kocur said. “He’s a skilled, smart player whose got some speed, and he brings in that Western League experience, so we’re happy to have Loch and just add some more depth to our forward group.”
Matthew Ronn | D (’05)
Ronn, a 20-year-old defenceman, returns to Estevan where he began his junior career with the Bruins. The Ebenezer, SK., product played 22 games with the team as an 18-year-old during the ’22-23 season before going on to play in the AJHL, and last year, BCHL with the Blackfalds Bulldogs.
Ronn said he’s looking forward to getting back on the ice – and in the community – in Estevan.
“Getting to see some familiar faces around town and some new faces, it’s been good,” he said with a smile. “It’s where I started my junior career, so I’m excited and looking forward to picking up where I left off.”
He said joining a young, dynamic blue line, he’s looking forward to helping out however he can.
“When I was here [the first time] I was just starting my junior career, and not really knowing what to expect, but now that I’ve played a couple years maybe I can teach the young guys a couple things and try and be a leader now and just give them a little bit of my knowledge,” he said.
As for his playing-style, Ronn gave fans an idea of what they can expect.
“I would say I’m a more offensive defenceman; I like joining the rush and putting up points, but I like to take care of my own end first, making that good first-pass out of the zone and then hopping up in the rush. I’m not the biggest guy, but I think I lead with a good stick and good body position as a decent skater, and I like to create some offense.”
Kocur said Ronn brings valuable offensive instincts and veteran savvy to the team’s blue line.
“We’re very excited to have Matthew back in Estevan,” Kocur said. “He’s an offensive defenceman, he’s skilled and he skates well, moves pucks well and does so many good things. We’re really excited to add him to our group and our backend as another veteran presence back there for the younger guys.”
