When the Bruins take to the ice this weekend for their home-and-home with the rival Weyburn Red Wings, there will be a new face donning the iconic Spoked-B.

The Bruins recently added forward, Drew Beasley following his release from the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), to bolster their offensive attack.

Standing tall at 6-foot-1, 181-pounds, Bruins’ Head Coach and G.M., Drew Kocur said the winger brings a mix of strong scoring pedigree and veteran leadership to the group.

“Beas is a big, strong kid and he’s a player that’s scored at every level that he’s played at,” Kocur said. “We saw it this week at practice; he knows how to shoot a puck and he knows how to bear down on pucks and score, and that’s one thing that we’re obviously always looking to add up front. He brings some more veteran leadership up front too, being a 19-year-old, so we’re excited to see how he does this weekend against Weyburn.”

Beasley joins the Bruins just two years removed from a dominant final season of High School Hockey in North Dakota, where he put up 59 points (28 goals, 31 assists) in 26 games with Bismark Legacy High to lead the team in scoring.

He then spent last year split between the Minnesota Mallards and Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL, posting 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 52 games.

Upon arriving in Estevan earlier in the week, Beasley was quick to integrate into the team, jumping right in for a school visit Monday.

“It’s been super fun, all the boys have been really welcoming and the community has too,” Beasley said of his first few days. “The school visit with all the kids was a lot of fun and just getting to hang out with them, and meeting my billets – they’ve been awesome and the coaching staff’s been great, so it’s just been a super fun first few days.”

Beasley said coming to Estevan, he hopes to follow in the footsteps of other North Dakota players he knows who have suited up for the Bruins over the last decade and had success.

“I know [the SJHL] is a great league and a lot of North Dakota guys where I’m from have come up here and had some success, so hopefully I can add to that in my own way and ultimately help the team win,” he said.

“Johnny Witzke who used to play here [2016-19], Dayton Deics [2019-22], and then obviously Getzy (Colton Getzlaff) who’s here with me; they’re all great guys and they said great things about it, so it should be a great spot.”

As for what fans can expect from him on the ice…

“I’d say I’m pretty offensive-minded, I can play at both ends of the ice but like to play north a lot and I like to make plays and just help the team put the puck in the net,” Beasley said.

Beasley will wear #24 with the Bruins, and will make his debut with the team Friday night, when they kick-off their weekend home-and-home with the Highway 39 Rival, Red Wings.

Friday’s game will be available on FloHockey, and for free on the Bruins YouTube Livestream. Pregame with Marty Martinson will begin at 6:45 p.m. with puck drop to follow at 7 p.m.
