Bruins Dominate In 6-0 Beat Down Of Melville

Four defencemen scored, the team only allowed 12 shots against and Grant Boldt registered his first career SJHL shutout in a dominating 6-0 victory for the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins over the Melville Millionaires at Affinity Place on Friday night.

Jayden Davis got the party started just 4:16 into the game, coming out of the penalty box and scoring on a breakaway to give the Bruins an early 1-0 lead. Tom Sweeney and Eddie Gallagher assisted on the play.

The Bruins smelled blood and didn’t let up as they scored two goals 25 seconds apart shortly thereafter. At 8:06, Kade McMillen scored his first career SJHL goal by sniping one top corner to make it 2-0. Sweeney and TJ Irey assisted on the goal. Then at 8:31, Austin King-Cunningham then blasted his second goal of the season to make it 3-0. Gallagher and Kolton Leslie assisted on the play.

Then at 17:27, McMillen added his second of the game to make it 4-0 after the 1st period. Gallagher got his third assist of the period along with Tristyn Deroose on the play.

Jake Heerspink added a powerplay goal halfway through the game to make it 5-0. Irey and Michael McChesney assisted on the point shot. Then with only six seconds left in the middle frame, Johnny Witzke scored to make it 6-0 after 40 minutes. Irey and Aigne McGeady-Bruce assisted on the play.

A rather uneventful 3rd period was highlighted when Bryce Platt and Melville captain Cory Schillo squared off at centre ice, with Platt winning the tilt decisively. The Bruins only allowed two shots in the final frame en route to securing a 6-0 shutout victory.

Though he wasn’t tested much, Boldt (12/12) was strong in goal when he was called upon in the win. Berk Berkeliev (21/27) was tagged with the loss, while backup Riley Christison (8/8) came in relief in the 3rd period.

The Bruins went (1/3) on the powerplay, while Melville went (0/5).

A total of 1,005 fans took in the Friday night affair at Affinity Place, while the Certified Energy Services 50/50 jackpot exceeded $4,700.
