Bruins Donate Cash And Donations To Local Food Bank

Fan support for the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins is once again tops in the SJHL, both in the stands and for the club’s efforts to give back to the community.

In the Bruins’ final game before the Christmas break on Tuesday, December 18th, the team partnered with Power Dodge and students from the ECS RAK club (random acts of kindness) as well as the ECS Social Justice club to raise money and donations for the local Salvation Army Food Bank.

Fans were encouraged to bring a donation to the game as demands for the food bank typically hit an annual high during the holiday season. And yet again, the community support for one another was on display.

In total, $248 in cash and a truckbox full of non-perishable food items were collected and donated to the Estevan Food Bank just before Christmas. Major Wilf and Heather Harbin of the Salvation Army showed great appreciation for the donation when it was surprisingly dropped off the next morning, and expressed their gratitude for the support of the Bruins’ fans.

The donation capped off a tremendous first half of community involvement for the hockey club in Estevan and area, and the team is excited to become active again when the regular season schedule resumes on December 30th with a 2:00pm home game against the Weyburn Red Wings.
