Bruins Fall 8-4 In Yorkton For Second Straight Loss To Terriers

For the second straight game, the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins could not keep the Yorkton Terriers offence in check as Yorkton defeated Estevan 8-4 on Tuesday night at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

After falling 4-2 to Yorkton in Canora just three night earlier, the exact same score would be up on the board after only 20 minutes of play on Tuesday.

Yorkton jumped to a quick 2-0 lead with goals by Chantz Petruic (0:54) and Colby Brandt (2:25). At the 10:00 mark, a great rush by the Bruins ended with Kolton Leslie scoring his 2nd goal of the season to make it 2-1. Tristyn Deroose and Eddie Gallagher assisted on the play.

The Terriers got the goal back at 14:26 as Jared Legien scored to make it 3-1. Just minutes later, a seeing-eye shot by Estevan’s Johnny Witzke cut into the lead again making it 3-2. Leslie and Tom Sweeney assisted on the goal. However, Yorkton made it 4-2 with Cole Keenleyside scoring at the 17:39 mark to round out the scoring in the opening period.

Grant Boldt would take over in between the pipes for Jake Anthony to start the 2nd period, but Yorkton’s offence kept coming. Cody Bruchkowski scored 1:44 into the frame to make it 5-2.

At the 3:52 mark, a high hit on Bruins defenseman Bronson Adams prompted him to drop the gloves against Greg Mulhall. Mulhall was issued a penalty for the hit.

Then the Bruins powerplay got them back into the game. First, Bryce Platt deflected a point shot past Yorkton’s Ryan Ouelette to make it 5-3 at the 4:15 mark. Jake Heerspink and Kade McMillen assisted on the goal. Later in the period on another man advantage, Platt one-timed a perfect cross-crease pass by Isaiah Thomas to beat Ouelette and make it 5-4 at the 16:39 mark. TJ Irey also assisted on the goal.

But with only 12 seconds left in the period, Yorkton’s Aiden Bulych scored a key goal to make it 6-4 after 40 minutes.

The Bruins would be unable to cut into the lead to start the 3rd period. Then after back-to-back icing calls, Yorkton’s Dino Antoniadis scored off a faceoff to put the Terriers up 7-4 at the 10:36 mark.

A late Bruins powerplay couldn’t get Estevan back into it, and Keenleyside added an empty-netter to make the final 8-4.

Jake Anthony (13/17) was tabbed with the loss, with Grant Boldt (18/21) played the final two periods in relief. Ryan Ouelette (29/33) got the win for Yorkton.

Estevan went (2/6) on the powerplay, while Yorkton (0/1) was unsuccessful on their only opportunity.

The Bruins (13-14-1) will host the Humboldt Broncos (18-6-2) at home on Thursday night at 7:00pm in the annual ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ game.
