When the Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins host the division rival, Terriers Wednesday night at Affinity Place, it will mark a battle of two Bunge Division rivals jousting for playoff position with no shortage of firepower.

The teams enter the evening separated by just a single point in the league standings, sitting 5th (Yorkton) and 6th (Estevan) overall heading into play.

The Bruins are 21-15-3 on the season through 39 games. Coming off a tough weekend sweep in Flin Flon, the team will be looking to right the ship quickly in their return to home ice. Estevan’s 45 points are just one-back of Yorkton’s 46, and two-up on Kindersley’s 43 in seventh.

Head Coach and G.M. of the Bruins, Drew Kocur spoke to the importance of a big bounce-back tonight with the standings so congested.

“I think just with the league this year, you can have a great week and be third or fourth, or you could fall to seventh-eighth-ninth, so every point means something. Coming home last weekend with nothing was obviously not the plan, but tonight at home we owe these guys one, so it’s important to have a good start tonight and we need the two points.”

The Terriers enter play 22-13-2 through 37 games, also looking for a bounce-back of their own after splitting their weekend series with the Klippers.

Headlined by a pair of high-octane offenses, the two sides enter Wednesday’s showdown having combined for each of the top five in league scoring. The Bruins’ dynamic duo of Ewan Rennie (61 points) and Rylan Williams (51 points) sit first and third in points, while Yorkton’s top-line trio of Gabriel Courchesne (53 points), Jye Zawatsky (49 points) and William Leonard (48 points) occupy second, fourth and fifth.

With so much firepower, it’s no surprise the teams also sit 2nd (Yorkton at 23.6 percent) and 3rd (Estevan at 22.5 percent) in power play efficiency, emphasizing the importance of playing a disciplined game and staying out of the penalty box.

Bruins’ captain and checking-line staple, Rorey Elson is likely to see a lot of the Terriers’ top dogs Wednesday. He spoke to the importance of limiting their high-danger looks especially on the man-advantage.

“We know what they’re bringing on the power play, they like to shoot the puck from anywhere, so we just have to make sure to get in the lanes and  make sure we’re blocking pucks to help our goaltender out,” he said.

Between the pipes, the two sides boast two of the top netminders in the league as well, with Dylan Adams (Bruins) and Callum Creig (Yorkton) slated to get the start for their teams.

Adams is 10-9-3 this season with a 3.13 goals against average (GAA) and .917 save percentage (5th-best in the league) in 24 games. Creig, who has been a workhorse for the Terriers, is 16-9-2 with a 2.95 GAA (7th) and .908 save percentage in 27 games.

Wednesday’s game will be available on FloHockey and for free on the Bruins’ YouTube Livestream. Pregame will begin at 6:45 p.m. with puck drop to follow at 7 p.m.

Wednesday’s game will also feature a special pregame ceremony, with RBC on hand to present Elson with a plaque as the Bruins’ 2025-26 Community Ambassador. (Stay tuned tomorrow for the full story!)
