Bruins Lose Goalie Duel 1-0 To Weyburn

After winning the last 4 meetings against the Weyburn Red Wings, the Estevan Bruins were unable to make it five straight over their Highway 39 rivals on Saturday night.

Joseph Young stopped all 35 shots thrown his way for Weyburn, and got help from the post three times in the 3rd period, as the rookie out-dueled Keenan Rancier (30/31) and the Bruins 1-0 at Affinity Place.

After the Bruins won on Friday night in Weyburn, they looked to complete the home-and-home sweep back home in Estevan on ‘Parents Weekend’. After an extended pregame ceremony introducing each Bruins’ player, their billets, and their own families, the game would begin.

Weyburn would open the scoring just 7:48 into the 1st period on a powerplay, as Kabir Gill’s point shot went through a screen and past Rancier to make it 1-0. The Red Wings would control much of the play in the opening period, outshooting Estevan 13-8 after 20 minutes.

It would be a scoreless 2nd period with the Bruins beginning to get back into control, but unable to solve Young. Shots were 21-20 for Weyburn after 40 minutes.

The Bruins would continue to pepper the Weyburn net with shots throughout the 3rd period looking for the equalizer. Estevan threw 15 shots on goal in the final period alone, along with three other pucks that rang off the post and away from the net. Eventually, time would run out on the Bruins and they would fall 1-0 to Weyburn.
