The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins kick-off opening weekend of their SJHL schedule tonight (Friday) in Melville, with the first game of what will be a home-and-home with the division rival, Millionaires.
Head Coach and General Manager, Drew Kocur said the team is ready to get things going following lots of time together working hard in preparation for this very weekend.
“We feel the group’s in a good spot right now and we’ve had a lot of time together now with preseason games done-and-dusted and some good practice time together,” Kocur said. “We feel that we’re prepared and ready to go this weekend.”
The Bruins’ top line of Rylan Williams, Ewan Rennie and Cash Olson highlight the players to watch for Estevan heading into their first game. Together all three have shown dynamite chemistry during their time together through camp and the preseason, as indicated by the gorgeous goal seen here.

The trio are likely to see a lot of defenceman Boston Harkness, who headlines the Millionaires’ players to watch, as a 6-foot-3, 209-pound tower of strength on the Mills’ blue line. Melville’s newly-minted captain is an early favourite to contend for Top Defenceman honours in the SJHL this season, coming off a 27-point campaign in 55 games last year.
Goaltending:
In goal, 19-year-old Dylan Adams will get the start for the Bruins, following a tremendous preseason, which saw the Kelowna, BC., product post a 1.92 goals against average and .940 save percentage in two starts.
Fellow SJHL newcomer, Kael Svenson will get the nod for the Millionaires after getting a heavy workload through the preseason, posting a 3.17 goals against average and .873 save percentage in five games.
Tonight’s action will be available on FloHockey and for free on the Bruins YouTube Livestream. Pregame with Marty Martinson will begin at 6:45 p.m., with puck drop to follow at 7 p.m.
