ABERDEEN, SOUTH DAKOTA – The Estevan Bruins opened their pre-season back-to-back with the Aberdeen Flyers of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) Saturday, in a hard-fought contest that saw the teams scoreless at the end of the 1st, and separated by just a single goal through two periods.
While the final score on the night would read 4-1 Wings, Bruins’ head coach Jason Tatarnic said there were still lots of positives his team can look to build on moving forward.
“It was a very entertaining game. I thought we played very well last night. We created some Grade-A scoring chances, including two breakaways, but we couldn’t find the back of the net on the first two. We did on the third one, making it a one goal game,” Tatarnic said.
“We had a chance on the power play to find an equalizer but unfortunately a turnover led to a breakaway goal against. The fourth goal against was a result us trying to push for some offensive late in the game. They’re a good a team and usually one of the best teams in the NAHL and you can see why. They play a heavy game and they have some very skilled players that included 4 Europeans.”
Forward Hudson Binder scored the lone Bruins’ goal, assisted by Reed Gramlich.
The Bruins return to pre-season action tonight (Sun) in Aberdeen for a rematch with the Wings to close the teams’ back-to-back. Puck drop will be at 5pm CDT.
