The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins took home a two-game sweep of the Battlefords North Stars over the weekend, with back-to-back 3-2 and 1-0 wins in front of the home crowd at Affinity Place.

Friday

Cole Robertson, Jacob Hufty and Cody Polumbus each scored their first goal as a Bruin, and Ben Polhill stopped 32/34 to backstop the team to a 3-2 win.

A 2-1 Estevan lead at the end of the first, and 2-2 game at the end of two, the shots also remained remarkably close throughout with 25 apiece heading into the third period.

In the third, Polumbus’ first of his junior career re-established the Bruins’ lead at 3-2 on a highlight-reel goal just 4:45 into the final frame, which would serve as the game winner, snapping the team’s four-game slide.

Saturday

Ben Polhill stopped 30/30 to earn his 1st SJHL shutout, and Ewan Rennie brought the teddy bears raining down from the stands, in a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over the Battlefords in night two of the weekend standoff.

A scoreless game through regulation, the Bruins band together with a complete team effort led by their goaltender and capped off with an OT game-winning goal to open the scoring in a walk-off on Teddy Bear Toss night.

With the back-to-back victories, the Bruins improve to 7-9-3 through 19 games this season. The team will now get the better part of a week off to rest up and prepare ahead of their next game, against Notre Dame in Carlyle Fri, Nov 29.

Friday’s game will be available on the official “Estevan Bruins SJHL” YouTube channel. The Room By Room Pregame Show will begin at 6:45 p.m. with puck drop to follow at 7 p.m.
