The Estevan Bruins have made a move to clear up a logjam of high-end goaltenders competing for playing time in the crease this upcoming season.
The Bruins have traded goaltender Emerik Demers (’01) to the Neepawa Titans (MJHL) in exchange for a Player Development Fee (PDF). This now leaves the Bruins with Boston Bilous (’01) and Eric Clark (’02) in net heading into Fall Camp, the other two goaltenders that appeared for the club during the 2020-21 season.
Demers (Becancour, QC) ended up only making four starts and appearing in 5 GP with Estevan after being acquired in a trade from the Valleyfield Braves (QJHL) during the 2020 offseason. In his limited time with the Bruins, Demers was solid with a (3-1-1) record, 2.93 G.A.A. and .906 SV%.
It has been a busy offseason for the Estevan Bruins, as they have signed a number of players for the 2021-22 season including Bilous, forwards Mark Rumsey (’01), Olivier Pouliot (’01), Mikol Sartor (’01), Eric Houk (’01), Joey Moffatt (’01), Ben Diamond (’02) and Carter Massier (’01, list rights acquired), and the additional signings of Zach Burfoot (’03), Zachary Smith (’02), and Brenden Holba (’03).
The SJHL season will begin on Friday, September 24th with the Estevan Bruins hosting the Yorkton Terriers at Affinity Place. The Bruins will be the host team for the 2022 Centennial Cup, presented by Tim Horton’s, taking place in Estevan from May 20th – 29th, 2022.
