The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins are pleased to welcome Kyra Widenmaier to the staff, as the team’s new Athletic Therapist.
Originally hailing from Oxbow (just 45 mins east), Widenmaier said she’s looking forward to jumping right in with the team this season and getting into the swing of things.
“I’m looking forward to a really great season,” she said. “I’ve always liked Estevan, it’s kind of a bigger city-center than the small-town life, and there’s a lot of opportunity which I appreciate. It’s a great organization and everyone’s welcomed me with open arms, which has been great since this all happened so fast. I’m excited to work with the players and for the season ahead.”
A graduate of Mount Royal University in Calgary, Widenmaier brings experience having worked first-hand in a team setting for her two practicum placements, an aspect of the job she’s always been fond of.
“My first practicum was with two volleyball teams at the university level, and my second was with the U of C women’s hockey team, so I gained a lot of insight into being an Athletic Therapist with hockey in particular during that year, which I really enjoyed,” she said.
“I was always part of a team growing up because I was involved in a lot of sports, and then when I went to school to be an Athletic Therapist I was always involved in a team setting, so I’m really looking forward to being part of one again.”
In addition to her credentials as an Athletic Therapist, Widenmaier also attended university in Toronto to achieve her Post-Graduate Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, prior to returning home to the area and moving to Estevan, where she hopes to also practice as a Naturopathic Doctor in the community in the near future.
