Bruins Head Coach and General Manager Chris Lewgood has accepted an increased role being named an Assistant Coach for Team Canada West for the 2018 World Jr A Challenge. Lewgood served as a Guest Coach at the team’s evaluation camp last season in Calgary.
Coach Lewgood will be joining Head Coach Rick Swan (Bonnyville Pontiacs-AJHL), Assistant Coach Joe Martin (Merrit Centennials-BCHL), Video Coach Derek Sweet-Coulter (Red Lake Miners-SIJHL), and Goaltending Coach Jamie McCaig (Merritt Centennials – BCHL)…all returnees from last year’s team.
“It’ll be an exciting experience and one that I expect I can learn a lot from. Even last year’s evaluation camp was a tremendous opportunity to network with and pick a few things up from some very good coaches. The guys returning from last year’s group are all excellent coaches and leaders as well as fantastic people.”
“It will be an honour to represent the Bruins, the SJHL, and the CJHL on the international stage. Being a part of a Hockey Canada event is something I do not take for granted and will make the most of.”
The World Jr A Challenge is being held in Bonnyville, AB in early December. Team Canada West won Gold at last year’s tournament and will look to defend their title as they take on teams representing Canada East, the United States, Russia, and the Czech Republic.
