After a pair of crucial wins at home last weekend that featured contributions from everyone on the Estevan Bruins roster, one player has been singled out and recognized for his impressive play with league honours.
Eddie Gallagher (2000, St. Albert, AB) has been named as the SJHL’s ‘Player of the Week’ from January 20 – 26 after tallying five points in two wins over the Notre Dame Hounds and Humboldt Broncos.
The highlight of the weekend was a SJHL-career high 4-point effort (1G, 3A) on Friday against Notre Dame in a 6-2 win, where Gallagher chipped in assists on 3 of the first 4 Bruins’ goals before scoring his 9th of the season to make it a 5-2 game for Estevan midway through the 3rd period. The following night, Gallagher added an assist during a 6-5 overtime victory over the Humboldt Broncos.
Gallagher has been the most productive player offensively for the Bruins since mid-December, rattling off 19 points (6G, 13A) in 14 games and only being held off the scoresheet in 3 of those games since December 13th.
Gallagher (41GP – 9G, 23A – 32PTS) has already surpassed the totals from his rookie season (43GP – 7G, 11A – 18PTS) while playing a consistently clean game, as Gallagher has yet to record a penalty (0 PIM) this season.
The Estevan Bruins as a team have been scoring at a ferocious pace over the last 10 games, averaging 4.9 goals/game while only allowing 2.1 goals against/game. In the last ten games, the Bruins have a record of 8-1-1.
It’s Gallagher’s first SJHL Player-of-the-Week award this season, and only the second member of the team to achieve the award this season (Isaiah Thomas – Nov. 17 – 24).
An honourable mention to Bruins’ defenceman Devan Harrison (4A), who was named as the runner-up for SJHL Defenceman-of-the-Week to Flin Flon Bombers’ captain Mason Martin (2G, 1A).
