It was a night to remember for 1st year Bruins’ forward, Reed Gramlich Friday, as the product of Scottsdale, AZ, USA scored his first in the SJHL in dynamic fashion, bringing the Affinity Place crowd to their feet.
Dancing in on a 2-on-2 with centerman Ewan Rennie, Gramlich picked up the pass from the high slot, pulling the puck – all in one motion – through his skates and to his backhand to beat the hapless Melfort netminder.
“It kind of just happened,” Gramlich said shaking his head post-game. “It was a quick rush, I saw Rennie going up wide, and he just found my stick and I just pulled it through my legs.. I wasn’t really thinking much and was able to finish, so it felt pretty good.”

Immediately swarmed by his teammates in celebration, the goal not only served as a highlight of the week candidate, but noticeably turned the tide in the hockey game. Coming just five minutes into the third, the tally got the Bruins back to within a single goal at 2-1, while also markedly shifting the offensive momentum.
Following a 22-12 shot advantage for Melfort through the first 40 minutes, the Bruins responded with 16 in the third period alone, to the Mustangs’ three.
Although that is as close as the Bruins would come on the night, in a 2-1 Melfort final, Gramlich said the team’s play in the third is another positive the group can look to build on moving forward.
“I think it was a good boost for our team and after that we definitely had a few chances to burry one and tie the game up,” the winger said. “We just need to keep building off it, keep working hard, and good things will happen.”
The Bruins will return to play this weekend for a back-to-back at home against the Nipawin Hawks Friday, and Flin Flon Bombers Saturday.
Both games will be available on the NEW Bruins YouTube Livestream and on FloHockey. The Room By Room Furniture Pregame Show will begin both nights at 6:45 p.m. with puck drop at 7 p.m.
