The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins are coming off a tremendous weekend road trip, which saw the team take three of a possible four points in their back-to-back with the league-leading, Klippers in Kindersley.
Friday
Friday’s game was a down-to-the wire finish, with Kindersley taking home a 2-1 win in the shootout.
A fast-paced, back-and-forth contest throughout, the teams combined for 84 shots through regulation and overtime (shots 44-40 Estevan) with Dylan Adams stopping 38/39 in the Estevan crease and Brett O’Halloran, 43/44 for Kindersley.
A scoreless game at the end of the first, and 1-0 Klippers’ lead through two, the Bruins would tie the game in the third period on a power play strike by Noah Admundson for his 6th of the year.
Despite the extra-time loss, the Bruins still solidified a single point in the league standings, with a shot to answer back the following night in game two of the weekend series.
…And answer back they did.
Saturday
Nathaniel Harvey scored a hat trick, and Rylan Williams (2G, 2A) and Ewan Rennie (2G, 1A) added monster multi-point games as well, to lead the Bruins to a 7-4 victory Saturday night.
Marking Harvey’s first three goals in the SJHL, the La Malbaie, QC, product mimed throwing a monkey off his back with his first – scored in the second period – before going on to tally two more in the third.
“It was a pretty long time waiting for it, so the monkey was definitely on my back a little bit there,” Harvey said with a laugh postgame. “But I’ve found some good chemistry with my linemates, we had some nice chances over the last couple of games, and I’m just happy that we found the back of the net this weekend.
“It was a great win, all four lines, two goalies and three [defence] pairings were awesome and we played some really good hockey, so it was a huge win.”

Williams’ pair came in the first period, with the first on a tremendous solo rush down-ice while holding off a defender. His second then came as the first of three power play goals by the team, off a laser from the high slot for his 10th of the year.
A 2-2 game at the end of the first, and 4-3 Bruins’ lead through two, Rennie’s pair came on a power play strike in the second period, and shorthanded breakaway in the third, to stay tied for 1st in the league scoring race with Humboldt’s Jacob Strizzi, with 31 points (16G, 15A) on the season through 19 games.
In goal, Nathan Kam stopped 27/31 to backstop the team in the win, while O’Halloran went 25/32 at the other end in his second of back-to-back starts.
With their strong weekend showing the Bruins are now 10-6-3 this season, through 19 games, to sit second in the Bunge Division and sixth overall in the league standings. The Bruins will return to play Wednesday night when they host La Ronge at Affinity Place to kick off a five-game homestand.
Wednesday’s game will be available on FloHockey and for free on the Bruins YouTube Livestream. Pregame will begin at 6:45 p.m. with puck drop to follow at 7 p.m.
