The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins registered their first win of the 2024-25 season Saturday, doing so in style with a 4-2 victory over the rival, Flin Flon Bombers at Affinity Place.

The victory was highlighted by another milestone goal, this time from rookie standout Luke Hogan, who scored the first of his SJHL career off a quick set-up from captain Cade Kennedy in tight, to make it a 2-0 game late in the opening frame.

“That was a great play by Kennedy, he hunted the defenseman down, took the puck away and then a great look from him back door,” Hogan recalled post-game with a smile. “I was wide open, and that was an easy one for sure. That was a great first goal against a good team to beat, so I was super excited about that.”

The goal served as a valuable insurance marker midway through the first, after Kent Moors opened the scoring just 23 seconds into the contest, with his second goal of the weekend.

Goaltender, Liam Hallett backstopped the team with a tremendous 41-save performance, which included a penalty-shot save on crafty Bombers’ forward, Ryder Ringor late in the opening frame to preserve his team’s 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Odin George added his second goal of the weekend less than two minutes into the third to make it a 3-1 game. His second shorthanded marker in as many games, the goal came in spectacular fashion on a feverous drive to the net.

Kennedy then sealed the contest for his team, caping a two-point night with his first goal of the campaign, firing the puck down ice for the empty-netter following a won board-battle.

The Bruins will return to action Wednesday night when the team travels to Humboldt to play the Broncos, prior to a back-to-back in Kindersley Friday and Saturday.

Wednesday night’s game will be available on FloHockey and on the NEW Bruins’ YouTube Livestream. The Room By Room Furniture Pregame Show will begin at 6:45 p.m. with puck drop to follow at 7 p.m.
