The Estevan Bruins announced Sunday, the team has named 20-year-old forward, Cade Kennedy captain ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Bruins’ Head Coach and GM, Jason Tatarnic said the decision came naturally, due to the veteran’s work ethic and leadership abilities exhibited since being acquired by the team prior to the Christmas break last season.
“Cade has done a great job as one of the 20-year-olds with our group so far. His communication with his teammates and the coaching staff has been excellent, and he understands how we want to do things as an organization and lead our players in that direction,” Tatarnic said.

A veteran of just over 100 career SJHL games, Kennedy spoke to what it means to join the prestigious list of Bruins’ captains in club history.
“It’s obviously a great honour to be named captain of this team, and this franchise forever,” Kennedy said humbly. “I came to Bruins’ games when I was younger and I had a lot of family friends that played here and were captains of this team, so it’s just a great honour to be able to lead these guys out for the regular season and I’m just excited for Friday and the home opener.”
Kennedy said right from the get-go, upon joining the Bruins last year, suiting up in the black and gold has served as a natural fit.
“Honestly, right when I got here it was awesome. A bunch of guys from last year’s team and then again this year’s team, we just mesh together really well. It’s a great organization and we have the best rink in the league, we have the best fanbase, and it’s amazing. I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to play here.”
Last season, Kennedy tallied 22 points (15 goals, seven assists) in 48 games, split between the Yorkton Terriers and Bruins.
Kennedy and his Bruins’ teammates will return to action Friday, Sept. 20 for their home opener against the Melville Millionaires at Affinity Place.
