King-Cunningham & Bilous Win Weekly SJHL Awards

The Estevan Bruins have had two players recognized with weekly awards from the SJHL from November 15th – 22nd.

Defenceman of the Week – Austin King-Cunningham

Austin King-Cunningham earned the Defenceman of the Week honour after posting 3 points during 2 wins for the Bruins this weekend. All 3 points came during Friday night’s 7-0 win over Weyburn as King-Cunningham scored 2 goals in the game, the first and the last, as well as an assist. The 3-point night was a career high for King-Cunningham, who was named Captain of the team for this season. On the year, King-Cunningham has 4 points (3G,1A) in 4 games.

Goaltender of the Week – Boston Bilous

Boston Bilous earned Goaltender of the Week honours after posting a shutout in his Bruins’ debut during Friday night’s 7-0 win over Weyburn. Bilous, on loan from the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors, stopped all 26 shots he faced including multiple breakaway saves and holding the fort late during extended powerplay’s for Weyburn. While Bilous did not start on Saturday night, as Emerik Demers stopped 34 shots during a 3-1 win, the 19-year-old netminder from Langley, B.C. is expected to start a few more games for the Bruins before returning to Moose Jaw after Christmas.

Lastly, 18-year-old forward Antoine St. Onge was named as the runner-up for ‘Rookie of the Week’ which was awarded to Brandon Della Paolera of the La Ronge Ice Wolves. St. Onge earned his first SJHL points and his first SJHL goal during Friday’s 7-0 win over Weyburn, finishing the game with 2 goals and 2 assists in a 4-point night. While he was held off the scoresheet on Saturday, St. Onge’s four points in two games were equal to Della Paolera’s total. St. Onge currently leads the team in rookie scoring.
