Little; Miller Earn Weekly SJHL Honours

The Estevan Bruins were perfect last week rattling off three straight wins, and as a result some weekly awards were handed out by the SJHL.

Keagon Little has been named the SJHL’s ‘MVP of the Week’, while Jackson Miller has been chosen as the SJHL ‘Goalie of the Week’.

It’s safe to say the Bruins’ are thrilled with the return of Keagon Little to the roster. Since rejoining the team after starting the year with Briercrest College, Little has been the team’s top scorer and provided the Bruins’ with impressive two-way play at center.

Little dominated the competition this week, posting 5 goals and 3 assists in 3 games. In a 5-3 win over Yorkton, Little had 4 points and followed that up with a pair of goals in each game this weekend, a 5-3 win over Notre Dame and a 5-0 win over Battlefords. Little is a threat in all situations, as he has scored twice at even-strength, twice on the powerplay, and once shorthanded.

Little was a key contributor to last season’s SJHL championship team as a shutdown centerman. It appears the third-year forward is taking the next step to being the go-to-guy for the Bruins for the rest of 2022-23.

It was a week to remember for Jackson Miller, the Bruins’ rookie goaltender born-and-raised in Estevan. The hometown kid has gotten a chance to play consistently since Christmas as starter Cam Hrdlicka has been sidelined with an injury, and found his groove in the crease last week.

Miller earned the win in all three games last week, but saved his best performance for Saturday night. Staring down the CJHL’s #1-ranked Battlefords North Stars, Miller backstopped the Bruins to a 5-0 victory, the first career SJHL shutout for Jackson. Miller made 30 saves and was named the game’s 1st star as the Bruins handed Battlefords their first regulation loss this season. For the week, Miller had a 2.00 G.A.A. and a .928 SV%.
