There’s been no player on more of a scorching hot streak in the SJHL than Estevan Bruins’ forward Mark Rumsey as the 20-year-old from St. John’s, Newfoundland has claimed another weekly honour.

Rumsey has been named the SJHL’s ‘Forward of the Week’ after yet another prolific week of scoring between Nov. 8th – 14th. Rumsey tallied 8 PTS (5G, 3A) in 3 GP last week as the Bruins rolled to three consecutive victories. On Tuesday, Rumsey scored the game-winning goal in a 4-1 victory over Melville before a dominating weekend over Weyburn. On Friday, Rumsey tallied 5 points (2G, 3A) in an 8-0 shutout over Weyburn as the 5-point night is the largest individual offensive game for the Bruins so far this season. Then on Saturday, Rumsey scored two more goals including the go-ahead game-winner in the 3rd period as the Bruins beat Weyburn 3-2.

Thanks to his big week, Rumsey has overtaken the SJHL scoring lead with 35 PTS (17G, 18A) in 20 GP. Rumsey’s 17 goals also pace the SJHL as the big Bruins’ forward in currently riding both an 11-game point streak (26 PTS) and a 5-game goal scoring streak (7 G), both league-high’s in the SJHL this season.

It’s the first ‘Forward of the Week’ award for Rumsey, as he also picked up the SJHL’s ‘MVP of the Week’ at the end of October.

BILOUS RUNNER-UP FOR ‘GOALIE OF THE WEEK’

Estevan Bruins netminder Boston Bilous also had a stellar week for the team in net, but finished as the Runner-Up for ‘Goalie of the Week’ honours to Michael Harroch from the Battlefords North Stars.

Bilous had two starts last week, earning the win with 20 saves in Tuesday’s 4-1 victory over Melville. Then Bilous registered his 3rd shutout of the season making all 17 saves in Friday’s 8-0 victory over Weyburn.

For the season, Bilous now leads the SJHL with a 1.82 G.A.A. and is second in the league with 3 shutouts. His .933 SV% is good for third overall and Bilous is second overall in wins with 11. Bilous already has two ‘Goalie of the Week’ awards so far this season.
