For Bruins’ centerman, Kent Moors, this week marked an experience to remember, representing Estevan and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) at the inaugural Western All-Star Showcase in Warman.

The showcase, which ran Nov. 5-6, featured a pair of games between top talent from the SJHL and Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) with players vying for a spot on the radar for Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge, which will be held this year in Camrose, AB., Dec. 9-15.

For Moors, the tournament served as his first chance to don the Canadian jersey, something inherently special to the 19-year-old from Kanata, ON.

“It’s cool when you walk into the room and just see those jerseys and the logo… it’s really a Canadian kid’s dream to put that on,” Moors said, reflecting. “It was an honour to wear the Maple Leaf – that was my first time ever – and just to meet all the guys we compete with. It was a good group of guys and it was a special time there in Warman.”

After falling 4-2 to Team MJHL in the opening game of the tournament, Team SJHL answered back with a convincing 2-0 win of their own Wednesday, in the final showdown.

While Moors may not have tallied a point in the two games, he was undoubtedly a key piece of his team’s success, playing the second game flanked by wingers Connor Miller (of the Humboldt Broncos) and Koen Senft (of the Flin Flon Bombers), to form a line that was a handful for the opposition, creating chances and showing some nice chemistry throughout the night.

“Connor plays a hard game, he’s hard to play against and he’s a good player, and then Senfter is a smart player, he has some good hands and he makes some good plays,” Moors said of the line’s dynamic.

“I felt in the first game [as a team] we were still trying to build chemistry with it being our first time playing together, but then Game 2 I just felt we were much harder to play against, much more physical, and we meshed a little bit more and I think it showed in the scores. There’s a lot of good players in this league, and to be selected to represent the league was an honour.”

Moors and his Bruins’ teammates will return to action Friday, when they host the division rival Melville Millionaires at Affinity Place. Friday’s game will be available on FloHockey and for free on the Official Bruins’ YouTube Livestream. The Room By Room Pregame Show will begin at 6:45 p.m. with puck drop to follow at 7 p.m.
