From his earliest days since joining the Bruins this fall, 20-year-old forward Hayden Pimm has wasted no time getting involved on the ice or off, in Estevan.
A hard-nosed player and pest on the ice – routinely bruising defenders on the forecheck or stirring the pot to rile up opponents – the story couldn’t be more the opposite off the ice, with #14’s gracious and kind approach to fans both young and old providing a conduit between team and community.
From bagging groceries at the local Co-op, to becoming a mainstay at school visits around town, and even carving pumpkins with the seniors at Creighton Lodge, Pimm’s hand is routinely the first raised when the question is asked of who wants to help out.
Perhaps no story better exemplifies Pimm’s dedication to giving back than volunteering to serve beef on a bun at Murray GM for the 48th United Way Estevan Telethon in town.
Despite having taken a puck to the face just days earlier, Pimm was on-hand and right in the thick of it, serving community members lunch with a smile, black-eye shiner and all.
It’s this level of dedication that’s earned Pimm the distinction of the Bruins’ rep for RBC SJHL Community Ambassador.
“It’s a great honour to be selected by the organization; I’m really appreciative,” Pimm said. “We’ve got 25 guys in [the locker room] that could all be selected for this and it’s not just me, we’re all out there and getting involved and it’s just great for the community.
“[…] Estevan has been great to me,” Pimm continued. “I’ve had a great experience so far with great billets, great people, a great organization and great community that really embraces us and who we are as Bruins. It’s really awesome and I’m fortunate for the people in this community.”
The SJHL recently announced its RBC Community Ambassador Team, featuring a single player from each of the league’s 12 member clubs. Each Ambassador will be celebrated at an RBC Game Night and bestowed a $1,000 donation from RBC to donate to a school of their choice in their local community.
Additionally, SJHL fans will be able to vote online for the Community Ambassador of their choice to be honoured as the recipient of the RBC Community Award at the end of the regular season. The winner will receive an additional donation from RBC in their name to donate to a school in their local community.
The Bruins’ RBC Game Night is coming up Jan. 24th and will recognize Pimm pre-game for his contributions to the community.
