It was a red-letter weekend for Bruins’ goaltender, Ben Polhill, who took centre stage in his team’s back-to-back wins over the Battlefords Friday and Saturday night at Affinity Place.
Making 32 saves Friday night to backstop his team to a 3-2 victory, the win served as the first of the young netminder’s SJHL career.
However, it was his encore performance Saturday that really turned heads across the league. The 18-year-old stone-walled the North Stars’ second-most prolific offense (averaging 4.0 goals per game heading into the weekend) to stop all 30 Battlefords’ shots and earn his first SJHL shutout.

“It was pretty awesome,” Polhill said of the feeling postgame. “Their goalie played really well too, and I just had to be on it today, make no mistakes and try and play my game.
“To [see us] score that goal in overtime was awesome and it doesn’t get any better than that, scoring the teddy bear toss goal in overtime. The group’s really coming together and now we’ve just got to keep it rolling into next weekend.”
Polhill finished the weekend with a perfect 2-0 record, along with a sparkling 1.00 goals against average and .969 save percentage over the two games, earning him MVP of the Week honours in the SJHL.
