The Estevan Bruins wrapped up Fall Camp over the weekend, with Team Gold taking home a down-to-the-wire 3-1 victory over Team Black in the final scrimmage contest of camp to claim this year’s Gerry Aspen Cup.
“The boys battled hard tonight,” said forward, Chase Holt said postgame. “Going into the second period 1-1 we knew what had to be done and went out there [with] high energy, got a quick one and finished it off.”

While Team Gold may have come away the official victors of camp, it was Team Black that got the party started with an OT win in the teams’ first scrimmage of the weekend, Friday.
Setting the tone for what would be a competitive four intrasquad games split 2-2 between the two sides, the opening OT win came thanks to heroics by forward Gunner Moore – who grew up playing his minor hockey in Estevan – to win the game on a mad-dash breakaway effort.

“We were in the D-zone there and we were tired, but Millsy ended up blocking a shot there and popped out to the middle,” Moore recalled of the winning play post-game. “I went in on a breakaway and had a guy right behind me, so I just tried to get a shot away and it ended up going in,” Moore recalled of the scoring play
Regina’s Jag Taylor was the hero in scrimmage #2, scoring a pair of goals from his blue line position to get Gold on the board with their first of back-to-back wins, followed by an epic four-point effort (two goals, two assists) by Hudson Binder in the second.

Saturday night also featured the highlight of camp on an incredible effort by veteran defenceman Owen Simmons and first-year Bruin, Yoan Gagnon to force a turnover and race in 2-on-0 for a beauty fit for top-billing on SportsCentre.
