Whittingham commits to Adrian College

The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins are pleased to announce defenceman, Kaelen Whittingham has committed to Adrian College (NCAA DIII) for the fall of 2025.

“I am very excited to be able to continue my hockey journey while getting an education,” Whittingham said of the announcement. “I have really enjoyed my talks with Adam, the head coach, and have heard nothing but great things about Adrian College. Adrian offers a great education, top notch playing facilities and a hockey program that has a rich history of success and growth.”

The commitment comes following a dynamic three seasons in the Bruins’ black and gold for the Cranbrook, BC., product. Whittingham established new career-highs in goals, assists and points in each of his three years in Estevan, with his play last season in particular turning heads, as his 42 points (10 goals, 32 assists) in 54 games finished tied for third amongst SJHL defenceman.

Whittingham said going on to play at the Collegiate level following his time in junior was always something he had hoped to achieve.

“Playing college hockey has been a goal of mine ever since I was a young kid and I am looking forward to the new experiences and opportunities down there while working towards earning a good education,” he said.

“I would like to thank the entire Bruins organization and the community of Estevan for their support, and an extra thank you to the Biggs family for being the best billet home that I could have asked for. The past three years in Estevan have been the best three years of my life.”

Bruins’ head coach and G.M., Drew Kocur said he’s looking forward to what the next chapter holds for Whittingham in the post-secondary ranks.

“I’m very excited for Kaelen. He’s put a lot of work in over these last three years, and especially in his 20-year-old year, had a really strong season with point production and being a leader both on and off the ice,” Kocur said.

“He’s a two-way defenceman who moves pucks well. He can be relied upon in all situations on the ice and he’s a very smart person as well so he’s going to have a great time with the academic side of things too. We wish him all the best, and that’s our goal – to move players on to the next level whether in the CHL or College.”

Adrian College is located in Adrian, MI., USA. The Bulldogs men’s hockey program is coming off a run to the Harris Cup Finals (NCHA Championship series) last season, and recently won an NCAA DIII National Championship in 2022.
