The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins capped off their first 3-in-3 road swing of the season Sunday evening in La Ronge, taking home a thrilling 3-2 overtime win over the Ice Wolves at the JRMCC.
Rylan Williams scored the winner in the extra frame, while goaltender Nathan Kam stopped 38/40 to backstop the team to victory in his SJHL debut between the pipes.
“I just tried to stay calm through all of it,” Kam said following the night’s action. “Obviously it was an exciting game because it was my first one, but you just can’t let any of the nerves get to you. I just had to play how I know [I can], and just stick to being calm.”

And calm he was.
In a game that saw a number of chances at either end, with the two sides combining for 28 shots in the first period alone (15-13 EST), the young goaltender kept La Ronge off the board through the first period.
His play allowed the Bruins to take a 1-0 lead to the intermission, off a milestone goal by Daniel Tverdovsky, who converted a laser-beam pass from Colton Getzlaff for his first in the SJHL.
“It felt pretty good,” Tverdovsky said of scoring his first. “I was just thinking of shooting and getting the puck on net and… it happened; I scored, so it felt good. […] It was tough, you know [Saturday], we went to OT too and had some bad luck in our first game, but we came out and battled hard again to get the win tonight, so it was a good feeling.”

A 1-0 Estevan lead at the end of the first, the Ice Wolves would respond in period two with a pair of goals on their own, coming off the stick of defenceman Mattias De Zen and Waylon Gardipy to make it a 2-1 La Ronge lead through 40 minutes.
However, as has been the case so often already this young season, the Bruins weren’t going away without some third period magic.
Noah Asmundson’s fourth of the season came on a one-timer to knot the game 2-2 midway through the third, eventually sending the game to overtime. Fresh off a two-goal performance the night before, the goal served as the White City, SK., product’s fourth in his last four games to move into a tie for seventh in league scoring with eight points (four goals, four assists) through his first eight games.
In overtime, the Bruins struck quick for the winner, as Ewan Rennie found Rylan Williams in front for the winning goal. The dynamic duo now sit 1-2 in the SJHL scoring race, leading all players with 13 (Williams) and 11 (Rennie) points respectively, through eight games.
