Brady Wilson netted his first career hat trick in heroic fashion, and Ben Polhill made 35 saves, to lead the Bruins to a resilient 4-3 OT win over the rival Red Wings Saturday night at Affinity Place.

A scoreless game through the first period, and 2-1 Weyburn lead at the end of two, the team would end up battling back from down-two in the third, after Weyburn’s Jaxson Ruthven made it a 3-1 deficit just five minutes into the final frame…

Wilson’s hat trick included the B’s second goal to get the team back to within a single, the tying goal to knot things up on the deflection of a Michael Carter shot with just over 1:30 to go, and the winning goal just 26 seconds into the OT period.

Kaelen Whittingham – who pitched in three points (1G, 2A) of his own in a monster performance – set the stage for the winner, busting up a one-on-one with lethal Red Wings’ goal-scorer Ethan DeKay bearing down on him.

Forcing a turnover which was promptly snapped up by Kent Moors, the play quickly developed into a two-on-one. Moors’ then found Wilson for a one-timer to cap the hatty, seal the victory, and bring the hometown crowd to their feet in jubilant applause.

“It was unbelievable,” Wilson said with a smile postgame. “I haven’t really had something like that happen to me in my last three years and it was just an unbelievable feeling. It was awesome and hopefully we can just keep going and keep winning games like that.”

Adding the cherry on top of the performance was Wilson’s parents being in attendance for the night’s contest, having made the trip out from Swift Current.

“My family travels to a lot of games and I think they were probably just as excited as me,” Wilson added with a laugh. “I don’t think I’ve scored a hat trick like that since peewee provincials, and my billets were there too, so it was unbelievable and just awesome to be able to have a game like that in front of them.”

With the victory, the Bruins extend their winning streak to four-straight. The team will now get a few days off to rest up and prepare ahead of their return to play Wednesday night against the defending-champion, Mustangs in Melfort.

Wednesday’s game will be available on FloHockey and the Bruins’ Official YouTube Livestream. The Room By Room Pregame Show will begin at 7:15 p.m. with puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
