Heerspink Named SJHL Defenceman Of The Week

After coming through in key moments for his team facing elimination, Power Dodge Estevan Bruins’ captain Jake Heerspink has been named the SJHL’s ‘Defenceman-of-the-Week’.

After scoring the game-winner in Game 2, Heerspink scored on the powerplay in a Game 3 loss on Monday. Then in Game 5, Heerspink scored a powerplay goal with less than three minutes to play in regulation to tie the game at 2-2 before Tanner Manz scored in double-overtime to extend the series.

Then in Game 6, Heerspink took a shot that Will Koop deflected home for the eventual game-winning goal in a 4-1 victory to force Game 7 back in Estevan.

Heerspink has four points (3G, 1A) in six games while playing shutdown minutes against Humboldt’s top forwards. The Bruins’ captain is building off an impressive regular season where he was named the Viterra Division’s ‘Best Defenceman’.

Game 7 between the Humboldt Broncos and Power Dodge Estevan Bruins is Tuesday night at 7:30pm at Affinity Place.
