Estevan Bruins – Player Recruitment

The Estevan Bruins are a proud member of the 12-team Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). Our club plays out of beautiful Affinity Place in Estevan, which has a capacity of 2,500 fans (plus additional standing room) and has seen multiple sell-outs during recent playoff runs. The club has also played host to the 2016 Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup and will be hosting the 2022 Centennial Cup, presented by Tim Hortons, for the CJHL National Championship. The arena is unmatched compared to all other SJHL arenas and is widely considered one of the top 2 Junior A hockey arenas in all of Canada. Additional features include a top-of-the-line dressing room, players lounge & video training room, an on-site workout facility, squash courts, swimming pool, library, multi-purpose gym facility, and a secondary ice surface (Power Dodge Ice Centre).

The SJHL regular season consists of 58 games, including 2 games at the Annual SJHL Showcase which takes place in Warman, Saskatchewan during the first few weeks of the season. League playoffs begin in March, with the top 8 teams qualifying, and playoffs extend to the end of April. The league champion wins the Canalta Cup and moves on to face the MJHL champion (Manitoba Junior Hockey League) in the Anavet Cup, a Best-of-7 series, which takes place the first week of May. The winner of the Anavet Cup advances to the Centennial Cup, made up of a host team and four champions from across Canada.

The Bruins are a publicly-owned team with a rich history. The club is led by a volunteer Board of Directors, consisting of a Team President and six other executive members. The office staff includes Jason Tatarnic, who serves as the Bruins’ Head Coach & General Manager, Danny Ewen is the team’s Director of Marketing & Gameday Operations, Amanda Wanner as the Office Manager and Dylan Lafrentz is the team Trainer and Strength Coach. However, several volunteers are relied on throughout the season and the Estevan Bruins are proud to have one of the most dedicated and passionate volunteer bases in the SJHL.

Families and friends can watch or listen to all Estevan Bruins’ games from anywhere in the world. Rock106 (106.1FM) in Estevan broadcasts all regular season road games and all playoffs games on the radio. HockeyTV has a partnership with the SJHL where all games are available to watch online (subscription required), and SJHL has partnered with SaskTel to broadcast games at the SJHL Showcase in Warman, the SJHL/MJHL Showcase in Regina in January, and the Canalta Cup Final Best-of-7 series.

The City of Estevan (population 11,500) is located in the southeast corner in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. The city has most if not all amenities of a larger center, with a small-town feel and is very easy to get around all areas of the city in a short amount of time. There is a strong connection between the team and the community, with a passionate fan base and supportive following for over 60 years. Estevan is approximately a 2-hour drive from the two closest international airports in Regina, Saskatchewan and Minot, North Dakota, a six-hour drive from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and just minutes away from the Canada/U.S.A. border.

  1. Hello, I am Andrew Lawrence. I just finished my season with the Connecticut Junior Rangers of the USPHL, Iā€™m a 6ā€™3ā€ 185 lbs defenseman. What I can offer you is that I am known for is my work ethic and never giving up. I will always be giving as much as I can, whenever I can, and I am motivated to always improve. Also, if there is a shot I can block I will always get in the shooting lane to block it. I am an all world roller hockey goalie and have a good understanding of the shooting lanes and little hints of when and where a player might shoot. Another thing is that I have a good hockey IQ, especially in the defensive zone. I can also bring leadership to the locker room as I was the captain of my previous junior hockey team the Atlanta Junior Kings. My plus-minus is +21 in a season where my team went 21-21-2 with 175 goals for and 168 against. I had 2 goals and 11 assists this year with 11 goals and 34 assists last year.
