Cole Fonstad Drafted 128th Overall To Montreal In 2018 NHL Draft

FONSTAD BECOMES FIRST ESTEVAN-BORN PLAYER DRAFTED SINCE 2001.

It’s an exciting day for Estevan Minor Hockey as young players aspiring to one day play in the National Hockey League can now see someone from their hometown make it to ‘The Big Leagues’.

Cole Fonstad (18) heard his named called out on Saturday morning on the stage in Dallas, Texas as the Estevan product was chosen in the 5th round, 128th overall to the Montreal Canadiens.

Fonstad grew up improving his skills through Estevan Minor Hockey until his second year of AA Bantam where he had 36 goals and 67 points in 29 games with the TS&M AA Bantam Bruins.

The following season, Fonstad spent the year playing AAA Midget for the Moose Jaw Generals. During the season, Fonstad was called up for one game with the Estevan Bruins where he scored a goal on his first shot in the SJHL against the Melville Millionaires. Fonstad also joined the Bruins’ while Estevan hosted the 2016 Western Canada Cup.

Fonstad has spent the last two seasons with the Prince Albert Raiders in the Western Hockey League after the Raiders drafted Fonstad 5th overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. This past season, Fonstad scored 21 goals and tallied 73 points in 72 games during the regular season, and added 4 goals and 1 assist in a 7-game first round defeat to the Moose Jaw Warriors.
