Bruins Drop Preseason Finale To Minot Minotauros

The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins closed off their preseason schedule on Monday night at Affinity Place against the Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

A speedy and skilled Minotauros lineup ended up skating away with the 5-1 victory as the Bruins’ now shift their focus to the regular season.

Minot scored twice in the 1st period to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission. The Bruins’ would respond on the powerplay early in the middle frame, as George Cathers finished off a nice passing play for his first goal in a Bruins’ uniform to make it 2-1 after two periods of play.

However, the Minotauros would reclaim their two-goal lead early in the 3rd period to make it 3-1. Minot would add two more goals and hold off the Bruins’ the rest of the way for a 5-1 final. Bruins’ goaltender Matt Lukacs was very solid in net for Estevan, stopping 35 of 40 shots in the defeat.

The Bruins’ finish the preseason with a 1-1-1-1 record, including a 3-3 tie in the Rookie game against the Notre Dame Hounds.

The community is buzzing with excitement for the 2018/19 regular season to begin this weekend, with the Bruins and Melville Millionaires squaring off in their annual home-and-home series to start the year.

The Bruins’ will open the season in Melville at 7:30pm on Friday. Fans who can’t make the trip can listen to the game on the ‘Voice of the Bruins’: Rock106 starting at 7:20pm. Then on Saturday, Affinity Place will be rocking for six hours straight as the Home Opener Tailgate Party gets going outside the doors from 4pm-7pm. Then fans can head inside before player introductions, a pregame banner-raising ceremony and the opening puck drop at 7:30pm.
