It’s a family edition of the SJHL Weekly Awards for two members of the Estevan Bruins, as brothers Jayden and Cody Davis were both recognized for the week of February 23rd – March 1st.
Jayden Davis (’99) was named as the SJHL ‘Player of the Week’ while younger brother Cody (’02) was named as SJHL ‘Rookie of the Week’ for their contributions to the team during two wins and one loss in the final week of the regular season.
Jayden has been the hottest player in the league throughout the month of February where he tallied a point in all 12 of the Bruins’ games (6G, 12A). In the final week, Jayden tallied 6 points (2G, 4A) in 3 games to close off his season totals at 58 points in 58 games played. Jayden had a pair of goals in a 6-1 win at Notre Dame on Wednesday, chipped in an assist in a 4-1 win at Weyburn of Friday, and racked up 3 assists in a 6-4 loss to Weyburn on Saturday night.
Cody has finished his first full season in the SJHL strong, as the 17-year-old forward, closing off the year with a 5-game point streak (5G, 2A). In the final week, Cody tallied 4 points (3G, 1A) in 3 games to close off his season totals at 27 points in 52 games played. Cody had a goal in the 6-1 win at Notre Dame, scored twice in the 4-1 win over Weyburn, and chipped in an assist in the 6-4 finale against Weyburn.
While the two played with each other last season with Cody as a call-up for the playoffs, this is the first year that the brothers from nearby Alameda (60km SE of Estevan) have played on the same team together. Both have played a huge role in the Bruins’ resurgence up the standings at the end of the season, and will both be counted on when playoffs begin on the weekend.
