NEW CONTRACT RUNS THROUGH THE END OF THE 2021-22 SEASON
Already one of the most successful Head Coach/General Manager’s in Estevan Bruins history, Chris Lewgood will remain behind the home bench at Affinity Place for the next three years.
On Wednesday, May 29th, the Estevan Bruins announced a 3-year contract extension for Lewgood, who has served as both the Head Coach and General Manager since the beginning of the 2013/14 season.
“We’ve won three consecutive division titles and have established ourselves as a perennial championship contender as was our plan when I signed my last contract extension,” stated Lewgood after the signing of his latest deal with the Bruins Executive Board of Directors.
“I’m proud and honoured that the Bruins and community have once again entrusted me and the amazing staff we’ve assembled here to lead the club in continued growth and prosperity for the next three seasons.”
Lewgood took over the job from his predecessor Keith Cassidy and has led the Bruins to a playoff berth in each of his six seasons. The most successful seasons have been the three most recent, with the Bruins winning the Viterra Division pennant in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In each of those seasons, the Bruins have qualified for the SJHL semi-final while in 2018 the team advanced to the Canalta Cup Final against the Nipawin Hawks, losing 2-1 in Game 7 of the championship series.
Lewgood also had the privilege of representing Hockey Canada in December 2018, serving as an Assistant Coach for Team Canada West at the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge. Canada West lost in overtime to Team Russia in the semi-final, then won the Bronze Medal by defeating Team USA 2-1 in a shootout.
Joining Lewgood behind the bench for the upcoming 2019/20 season will be: Jeff Smith (Associate Coach), Aren Miller (Assistant Coach), and Dylan Lafrentz (Trainer & Strength Coach).
Lewgood has a career 184-126-34 record as Head Coach/GM of the Estevan Bruins.
