Heerspink Named SJHL Defenceman Of The Week

HEERSPINK EARNS FIRST WEEKLY HONOUR; JAKE ANTHONY RUNNER-UP FOR GOALIE OF THE WEEK

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) handed out weekly honours on November 12th, with captain of the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins Jake Heerspink earning his first nod as the SJHL Defenceman of the Week.

Heerspink (’98) racked up five points (1G, 4A) in four games for the Bruins as the team went 2-2 to stay at the .500 mark on the season (12-12).

The Regina-born blueliner now has points in 8 straight games (3G, 7A), the longest scoring streak for any Bruin so far this season. Heerspink (5G, 13A) now sits tied for 3rd in SJHL scoring among defenceman along with teammate Johnny Witzke (6G, 12A). Flin Flon’s Calvon Boots (4G, 21A) leads defencemen with 25 points.

ANTHONY’S RESURGENCE RECOGNIZED

Bruins goaltender Jake Anthony (’99) strung together three rock-solid starts in a row last week as he was recognized as the runner up for SJHL Goalie Of The Week honours.

Anthony won 2 of his 3 starts last week, while posting three of his best statistical efforts in all three games. On November 6th, Anthony stopped 42 shots (.977 Sv%) in a 4-1 home win over Yorkton. Anthony then made 32 saves (.970 Sv%) and stopped both Battlefords shooters in a 2-1 SO win on November 9th. Anthony then gave the Bruins a chance to win with 38 saves (.927 Sv%) as they were heavily outshot in a 3-2 loss to Kindersley on November 10th.

Anthony (6-6) has now improved his GAA (goals against average) to 3.17 and his Sv% (save percentage) to .900 on the season, as both he and Grant Boldt (4-5, 2.57 GAA, .912 Sv%) have formed a dependable 1-2 punch for the Bruins in goal.
