Isaiah Thomas Named SJHL Player-Of-The-Week

An outstanding road trip with some clutch scoring for Isaiah Thomas has led to the Estevan Bruins’ forward claiming the first SJHL weekly honour of the season for the team.

Thomas has been named the SJHL ‘Player-of-the-Week’ for November 17th-24th after totalling six points (4G, 2A) including the game-winning goal in both Bruins victories last week.

Thomas led the charge in a 4-1 win over Kindersley on November 19th scoring two goals in just over a minute to break a scoreless tie in the 2nd period. Thomas was held off the scoresheet in a loss against Humboldt, but scored another goal against Battlefords in a 6-3 loss on Friday night. Then Thomas assisted on a pair of goals and scored the overtime winner in a 5-4 win over Kindersley to close out the road trip on Saturday night.

For the season, Thomas leads the Bruins in goals (10) and is second on the team in points (18) in 23 games played, behind only Bruins’ captain Jayden Davis (21).

Thomas has already equaled his goal total from his rookie season where he finished with 26 points (10G, 16A) while playing in all 58 regular season games, adding six points (1G, 5A) in 13 playoff games.

It’s the first weekly honour for the Estevan Bruins this season, with goaltender Keenan Rancier also garnering SJHL Goaltender-of-the-Month honours in October.
