Another chapter in the Flin Flon Bombers-Estevan Bruins rivalry was written Wednesday night at Affinity Place.
The Bruins, paced by hat tricks from captain Kade Runke and Mitch Kohner, were able to outlast the Bombers and win 8-6 on home ice in a back-and-forth contest that had multiple lead changes.
The Bruins led 5-2 in the second period, but the Bombers fought back to make the game close. Kohner was able to break a 6-6 tie in the third period before Cody Davis added an empty netter to seal the deal.
Alex Von Sprecken scored in his return to Estevan as a member of the Bombers, which drew bipartisan cheers from the crowd.
It was the first time the two teams had met since Game 7 of the SJHL Finals last spring.
The Bruins have now won six straight games and improve to 7-6 on the season, while the Bombers suffered only their second loss in regulation and fall to 7-2-1-1.
Flin Flon will play in Weyburn Friday night, while Estevan travels to Kindersley for a game with the Klippers, also on Friday.
