The Estevan Bruins have had another player chosen for a weekly award from the SJHL, and have now had a winner in each of the five award categories this year.
Breakout star forward Caelan Fitzpatrick was named the SJHL’s ‘Rookie of the Week’ for Nov. 1st – 7th following a pair of games against the Humboldt Broncos. Fitzpatrick led the charge offensively with two goals and one assist in Saturday night’s 6-2 win for the Bruins, however he was shut out in Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Humboldt.
Fitzpatrick’s two goals came on the powerplay and shorthanded, respectively. The 18-year-old forward from Moose Jaw has been the most dangerous player on special teams in the SJHL this season, as he leads the league in shorthanded goals (3) and is 5th overall in powerplay goals (5). Fitzpatrick is 2nd in Team Scoring with 21 PTS (10G, 11A) behind Mark Rumsey (27 PTS), and Fitzpatrick is 8th overall in the SJHL in points.
Fitzpatrick has been one of the most consistent players for the Bruins so far in 2021/22, as he’s only been held off the scoresheet 4 times in 17 games and hasn’t been shut out in back-to-back games yet this season. It’s the first ‘Rookie of the Week’ award for Fitzpatrick this season, but he’ll likely be in contention for the honour all season long.
As mentioned above, the Bruins’ have now had a weekly winner in each of the SJHL’s five award categories this season.
